Perfect comeback at the DM65 in Thurm

On the first weekend in September, MSC Thurm invited us to the second-last round of the German Youth Motocross Championship 65cc in Saxony. For us, it was the return to the DM65 after my serious crash at the start of the EMX semi-final in the Netherlands, where I suffered a serious shoulder injury. As a result, I missed the event in Schweighausen and had to watch my points cushion in the championship dwindle to just two points.

Having been back on the bike for a few weeks, I was highly motivated and looking forward to the event in Thurm. I already dominated the races for the Saxony Championship on Saturday, which provided perfect training for the race on Sunday.

In the morning qualifying session, I made it clear that I was best able to cope with the difficult conditions and secured pole position, as I have done at all the DM events where I have competed this season.

In the first race, I came round the first bend in second place and was able to take the lead ahead of John Kranhold as early as the second bend.During the race, I was able to pull away from the rest of the field and took a commanding win ahead of Ksawery Krysztoforski from Denmark and John Kranhold from Thuringia.

The start of the second race was similar. I came through the first bend in second place again, took the lead from the Dane Kryszoforski on the first lap and drove away again. He decided the race in his favour with a lead of around 32 seconds and secured the day’s victory in Thurm with full points.

Luca Nierychlo extended his lead in the championship standings to 16 points. Things will get exciting once again in mid-September, as the final of the DM65 will take place in Westerhausen.

Luca: ” I’m just happy to be back at the start of the DM65. The weeks after the starting crash at the EMX semi-final in the Netherlands were very difficult for me. But my family helped me to get through this time during my injury and Collin Dugmore prepared me perfectly for the event in Thurm.”
